Five men arrested on suspicion of stealing a Shetland pony
Five men have been arrested on suspicion of stealing a Shetland pony after a car chase in East Yorkshire.
The Humberside Police helicopter was called to assist the chase along the A63 after the pony, named Mayflower, was stolen in Lincolnshire.
Officers followed the white Transit van along the A63 westbound before stopping the vehicle close to Howden.
Police had been called at 4.50pm on Thursday after a woman saw a group of men attempting to steal the pony near Ulceby.
The men are tonight in custody.
Mayflower was taken to Howden Police Station where she grazed until she was collected by her owners.
Inspector Brett Rutty said: "The safe return of the pony was down to the quick-thinking of members of the public and the quick action of the local police officers."
