Festival promises top bands, without the mud
07:00 - 06-May-2008
The debut festival will take place at The Welly, in Beverley Road, Hull, on Saturday, May 24, featuring some of the hottest young indie and rock bands in the country.
Promising “a music policy spanning indie and electro to rock, emo and drum'n'bass – with even a bit of reggae and dubstep thrown in for good measures”, the event should have something to suit everyone without having to drag yourself down to Glastonbury or a soggy park outside Leeds or Reading.
Also on the bill is Radio 1's new music DJ Mary-Anne Hobbs who will be playing some of the best new British music and picking her bands to look out for in 2008.
The event is the brainchild of Under The Influence promoter Dean Shakespeare who hopes the festival could be the first of many bringing the brightest young bands to Hull.
He said: “We're bringing some really exciting up and coming bands to Hull for what will be 12 hours of brilliant music.
“The Festival Eithout Fields will be a refreshing change from all the big corporate festivals – and will showcase some genuinely underground bands who have big futures ahead of them alongside some established festival artists.
“The event itself will be across two rooms with three bars, food stalls, pass outs and guest DJs, so it will have that genuine festival vibe – but best of all if it rains, it's all indoors.”
Among the 20 bands who will be performing at the bank holiday weekend festival will be rising Liverpool indie outfit Hot Club De Paris, whose debut album Live at Dead Lake is due out this summer, Berlin-based electronica duo Robots In Disguise, south London alt rockers The Metros and up and coming Brighton threesome Elle Milano whose debut album Acres Of Dead Space Cadets is out now and winning ecstatic reviews.
Two types of ticket are available for the event including an early bird which allows entry from when the fun starts at 3pm until kicking out time at 3am the following day.
And a later riser ticket which allows entry from 10pm.
The Festival Without Fields will be held on Saturday, May 24, from 3pm to 3am, at The Welly, Beverley Road, Hull. Tickets cost £15 for all-day entry and £8 which allows entry from 10pm. For more details, call (01482) 221113 or visit www.giveitsomewelly.com
