Thursday, May 07, 2009, 06:30

DENE Park Sports and Social Club was rocked to its foundations as nine acts took to the stage for the third semi-final of Talent Trail 2009.

Each of the performers had been hand-picked from previous heats and the judges had the huge responsibility of deciding who would make it through to the competition's glittering grand final.

After much deliberation it proved to be a good night for Bad Dog who were awarded 50 points out of 50 for their electric showpiece.

The four-piece rock band oozed energy on stage, especially lead singer Steph Tabner who belted out Tina Turner's Nutbush City Limits followed by a note-perfect rendition of Janice Joplin's Piece Of My Heart.

And the band's third song, I Love Rock 'n' Roll which has been covered by everyone from Joan Jett and the Blackhearts to Britney Spears, had the audience singing in their seats.

Steph, 36, of Beverley said: "It was fantastic, it feels great to have got through to the final.

"We were thrilled to get through to the semis but this is amazing – I'm going to be smiling for weeks."

The second act which did enough to make it through to the final was stunning girl group Entice.

The fabulous five-piece was awarded a fantastic 40 points after performing Amy Winehouse's Valerie, Mariah Carey's Any Time You Need A Friend and musical soundtrack Seasons of Love.

Wearing co-ordinating black dresses that screamed red carpet-couture, the girls gave it everything they had earning them a round of raptuous applause and a place in the final at Hull City Hall.

Group member Leanne Smith, 19, of east Hull, said: "It's fantastic that we've got through and we're all really looking forward to performing at City Hall."

Despite not getting through to the final stage of the competition, the other acts performing at Dene Park on Tuesday were polished enough to ensure the audience enjoyed a night of non-stop golden entertainment.

They were May Winehouse, Chocolate Rainbow, Julia Daye, Frank Dean jnr, Gary Marsden, Roxy Heart, and Joni Clyde.

The next – and last – semi-final takes place tonight at Dee Street Club, Hessle Road, west Hull from 8pm.

The Grand Final takes place at Hull City Hall on May 20.

Tickets for the final cost £8 and are on sale now from Hull City Hall box office or by calling (01482) 226655.

This year's Talent Trail competition is sponsored by Dave "Devilfish" Ulliott and DevilfishPoker.com.
