Bransholme: families see fire damage
07:00 - 10-May-2008
The fire, which spread through seven homes in Davidstow Close, at about 7pm on Thursday, was put out in less than two hours.
But it will take longer for the affected families to return to their homes.
Sam Hobson, 26, and his partner Jamie Palmer, 25, had to stay with separate friends following the blaze.
Their two children have now been sent to stay with their grandparents as the family waits to hear if they can return to their home.
Mr Hobson was allowed into the terraced house to see how much damage was caused by the fire.
He said: “It could have been a lot worse. If it had happened in the middle of the night it would have been worse.
“I've been the luckiest in the row because I think my house is repairable. Other houses beyond mine aren't.”
Mr Hobson, a council tenant can now see into his loft from the street because of the damage caused by the fire.
The father-of-two is still waiting to hear from the council about the structural damage to his home, but he is confident his family may be able to move back in after the weekend.
Glenn Ramsden of Humberside Fire and Rescue said the investigation into the cause of the fire was ongoing.
He said: “There's quite a lot of work to do, there are a number of issues involved and we've got to pay the same amount of attention to each of the properties.
“We are trying to find out if it was an accident or suspicious.
“If it is found to be suspicious we will hand the matter over to the police.”
Police officers investigating the Bransholme fire are keen to hear from anyone with information about how it started on 0845 6060222. Callers are asked to cite log number 616 of Thursday, May 8.
