Breaking news: 14-year-old boy locked up after police chase

13:30 - 13-May-2008

A 14 year-old boy who stole a people carrier in Hull and ended up crashing it in Scunthorpe has been sent to youth custody for eight months.

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, drove at speeds of up to 110 mph during the incident last month.

At one stage, he was pursued by four police cars and the Humberside Police helicopter.

After crossing the Humber Bridge, he finally crashed the stolen VW Touran into three parked cars on the outskirts of Scunthorpe.

Before being sentenced this afternoon, after pleading guilty to vehicle theft and driving without a licence and insurance, he told Hull Magistrates: “I will never do it again.”
