Darts legends to play at Brid Spa
7:00 - 09-May-2008
Four world champions of the 1980s are set to relive their famous battles of yesteryear, as they go head to head in a new competition – the League Of Legends.
Battle lines will be drawn and old rivalries will be stirred up when the visit to the East Yorkshire seaside resort comes as part of an eight-week tour of the UK.
The five-time world champion Eric Bristow, the “Crafty Cockney”, said he cannot wait to rekindle old rivalries.
He said: “The players are looking forward to the league and I know all eight of us have been practising hard because everyone wants to win – it's in the blood.
“This is a fantastic opportunity to compete again with players we've not been up against for many years.”
And Bobby George, will have the chance to gain revenge for his defeat by Bristow in the classic 1980 world final.
He said: “Competing makes us all feel like born-again darts players. It's going to be lots of fun, but competitive, too.”
The two legends will be joined by John Lowe, Bob Anderson, Keith Deller Cliff Lazarenko, Dave Whitcombe and Peter Evison, as the sport's most popular personalities roll back the years to thrill the crowds again.
The Betfred.com League Of Legends will also visit Blackburn, Birmingham, Batley, Bridlington, Reading and Stoke-on-Trent, with each player contesting one match per night over the best of 12 legs.
When the round-robin stage has been completed, the top four in the league table will qualify for the semi-finals.
The League Of Legends competition will come to Bridlington Spa on August 8.
