An East Riding businessman has been murdered in Tenerife.

He had been knifed twice in the chest and once in the leg in the attack, near the popular holiday resort of Playa de las Americas.

Police said two windows had been forced open and the property ransacked.

A Foreign Office spokeswoman said: "We can confirm the death of a British national in Tenerife, Spain, on February 8 2010. Consular staff are contacting the next of kin and will offer consular assistance.

"Local police are investigating."
