Now, the Princess Royal has toured facilities at a college in the East Riding that could help the next generation of medal hopefuls achieve their dreams.
Her Royal Highness Princess Anne opened the new equine indoor arena and learning resource centre at Bishop Burton College, which is in the middle of a £25m revamp.
She also presented the rosettes to the successful riders at the Pro-Am show jumping competition held at the arena and compèred by BBC showjumping commentator Stephen Hadley.
The Princess Royal spent almost two hours at the college yesterday as she was met by Lord Lieutenant of the East Riding Susan Cunliffe-Lister and shown around the grounds by college principal Jeanette Dawson.
Mrs Dawson said: "This visit is the culmination of four years of hard work planning and constructing these fantastic facilities and the whole college – staff, students and other stakeholders, have been incredibly excited.
"It's great to make such an occasion of opening Bishop Burton Arena and the learning resource centre, and demonstrating how they will enhance the learning experience of our students and the experiences of visitors and external users."
