FC coach Sharp backs Hull City
7:00 - 02-May-2008
Hull FC and Rovers face each other as part of the Millennium Magic event in Cardiff on Sunday.
And the Tigers continue their push for promotion to the Premier League with an away match at Ipswich.
City are guaranteed at least a play-off place, but a win at Portman Road could see them go up automatically if their promotion rivals Stoke City lose their game against Leicester.
Hull FC coach Peter Sharp is hoping for a better result for his side after the Robins clinched a 14-10 victory at the derby at the Millennium Stadium in Wales last year.
He said: “This is a game we desperately want to win.
“Having lost to them at Cardiff last year and at Craven Park this season and at the KC last year we have plenty of incentive.”
He spoke of the excitement surrounding the day of sporting action.
He said: “Sport in the city right now is on a tremendous high.
“Sunday could be a day that will go down in history.”
Sharp also wished Tigers' manager Phil Brown and his men the best of luck for their game.
He said: “Hull City face arguably their biggest game ever when they travel to Ipswich.
“I hope they go up and I wish Phil Brown and his players all the best.”
Hull KR hooker Kirk Netherton had a similar message of support for the Tigers.
He said: “This weekend promises to be a brilliant weekend for the city of Hull.
“For all three professional teams to be on the big stage on the same day is great.
“If City can make it to the Premier League, that will put Hull on the sporting map.
“I can't think of too many other cities who could boast having three professional sides in the top divisions.”
He said Robins fans would have something to celebrate.
He said: “We are confident we can repeat our Millennium Magic win from last season. It's going to be a massive game and I'm hoping I can be a part of it.”
Hull City play Ipswich at 2pm. Hull FC and Hull KR's match starts at 4.30pm. Both games will be shown on satellite television.
