Grand welcome planned for City heroes

Wednesday, May 07, 2008, 07:00

HULL City players and coaching staff will take part in an open-top bus tour and civic reception at the end of the season – even if they aren't promoted to the Premier League.

Plans are in place to celebrate a season which has already exceeded expectation if the Tigers reach the play-off final at Wembley.

The event will take place on Monday, May 26, two days after the final.

It will be held as long as the team reaches the final, but regardless of if it wins.

Along with the bus tour, which will start from the KC Stadium and finish at Hull City Hall, 200 fans are being invited to have drinks and snacks with the players during the VIP reception.

The fans will be picked through upcoming competitions.

The plans have been drawn up by the club in partnership with Hull City Council.

City chairman Paul Duffen said: “I think it's wonderful that the council is joining with the club in celebrating the achievements of the season.

Fans remain confident of City's chances of getting into the Premier League, even after Sunday's 1-0 defeat at Ipswich Town, which meant the club missed out on automatic promotion.

City take on Watford home and away in the play-offs, with the winner going on to Wembley.

Hull City will play Watford away on Sunday and then at the KC on Wednesday, May 14.
