Hull team travels to London to pitch city's World Cup bid

Thursday, November 26, 2009, 07:15

A team of Hull ambassadors is today travelling to London to hand over its bid to host World Cup football in the city.

The Hull Bid 2018 team has spent hundreds of hours creating a 252-page document it hopes will convince the Football Association (FA) the city is worthy of being chosen.

At noon, the delegation joins 14 other cities from across England at Wembley Stadium, as they submit their formal applications to the England 2018 World Cup Bid Team.

Hull will pitch itself as a city of surprises and a city of spirit, a place on the up and united in its drive to host international matches.

The bid is based around four key selling points: Hull's unique arena, transport links, the regeneration in the city and the compassion of the people.

To bolster the bid, figures including Hull City chairman Adam Pearson, captain Ian Ashbee and Hull City Council leader Carl Minns will be with the team.

On December 16, the FA will announce the 16 stadiums that will be put forward to FIFA, should it win its own World Cup 2018/22 bid.

Some of the 15 cities are submitting bids for more than one stadium.

The Mail is in London today to see the handover of the bid.
