Humberside Police warning over car thieves

Thursday, July 02, 2009, 12:40

Thieves are breaking into houses and stealing car keys before driving off in the owners' vehicle, police have warned.

The offenders are mainly targeting high value motor cars during the middle of the night.

Between 1 May and June 29, there were 25 of this type of offence reported to police.

The offences are spread right across the East Riding, but most offences occurred in the Pocklington, Bridlington and Hornsea areas.

Police are investigating these offences but are warning owners of high value motor cars to ensure they are locked up and car keys are hidden away safely within the house.

PC Richard Beeforth said: "It appears that the offenders are looking through windows first to see if they can see car keys laid around.

"I would urge owners of high value cars to hide away their car keys within the house so they cannot easily be found by an intruder."
