Joe murder accused in hospital

07:00 - 10-May-2008

The man accused of murdering Hull teenager Joe Dinsdale is in hospital with a serious heart condition.

Lewis Stephen Gray, 20, is charged with the murder of Joe, 17, on February 11 and was due to enter a plea to the charge.

Mr Gray, of Marfleet Lane, east Hull, should have appeared at Hull Crown Court.

The honorary Recorder of Hull and the East Riding, Judge Michael Mettyear, told the court he had received a letter from Hull Prison stating the 20-year-old was in Hull Royal Infirmary suffering from a “serious heart condition”.

The hearing has been postponed in the hope he will be able to attend in four weeks.

Prosecutor Mark Bury said a trial date for the murder charge had been set for October and it was hoped they could mention the case again in four weeks.

Joe, of Bilsdale Grove, east Hull, died after being stabbed through the heart close to the junction of Bilton Grove and Portobello Street in east Hull.

Mr Gray is alleged to have armed himself with a knife and stabbed Joe after an argument.

Joe, who was just weeks away from celebrating his 18th birthday, died in an ambulance on his way to Hull Royal Infirmary.
