Junk mail thief who sold vouchers on eBay is spared jail term
But when postal worker Jamie Coult saw it piling up at Harpings Road sorting office in west Hull he decided to steal it and sell it on eBay.
The former postman stole the junk mail which included money off vouchers for Lurpak, Pampers, McCain chips and Wetherspoons.
He sold them in bulk to customers on eBay and even sent the coupons off to people using prepaid Royal Mail envelopes.
Coult, 36, of Wadsworth Avenue, north Hull, had worked for the Royal Mail for 13 years initially as a postman and latterly as a managerial support officer.
For a three-month period between April 24 and July 31 last year, Coult sold the vouchers for butter and beer on eBay.
Investigators noticed that vouchers were being sold on eBay and began an investigation.
He pleaded guilty to three counts of theft at Hull Crown Court.
Recorder Rodney Jameson QC sentenced him to a 12 month community order and ordered that he undertake 100 hours of unpaid work in the community.
He was also ordered to pay £1,000 court costs.
