U2, The Clash, Elbow and the Scissor Sisters have joined the War Child music project.

The four acts join legends such as Sir Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, Brian Wilson, The Kinks and Joy Division in allowing their work to be included on War Child's Heroes CD, which raises money for marginalised children living in war zones.

The album concept is that the biggest legends in music history select their personal favourite song from their own songwriting canon, and nominate an artist from the next generation to create a modern reworking of that classic song.

Acts chosen to perform the songs include Hot Chip, Duffy and The Kooks.

Many acts that were keen to join the project have now completed and delivered their tracks, and the album has been mastered at the legendary Abbey Road studios.

The full tracklisting will be revealed in January, and the album will be released in February.
