Poppy collection stolen on Remembrance Sunday

Friday, November 13, 2009, 08:00

A poppy collection tin was stolen from a store in Hull as people across the country remembered Britain's fallen heroes.

The Royal British Legion collection box containing around £60 was taken from Wynsors World of Shoes, Hessle Road, at around 1pm on Remembrance Sunday.

It happened as staff attended to customers elsewhere in the store.

Mark Richardson, managing director of Wynsors, said: "This is a heartless act by a criminal who has shown no respect for the men and women from the Armed Forces and their families.

"We will be making a donation to the British Legion to make up for the stolen funds."

The thief was caught on CCTV fleeing the scene with the box. He was described as white, with brown hair and wore a red jacket. He was pushing a pram.

Humberside police are appealing to people with information to contact them on 0845 60 60 222.
