Motorcyclist dies after Willerby crash

A man has died after a motorcycle crash on a notoriously dangerous East Riding road.

The man, believed to be in his 40s, was riding along Great Gutter Lane in Willerby and died in hospital after the smash at lunchtime yesterday.

Driving a Lambretta scooter towards Cottingham, the man is believed to have been turning left into a side road before being struck by a car turning right into the same road.

Humberside Police have appealed for any witnesses to come forward after the crash at 12.45pm.

Man arrested over scooter rider's death

A MAN has been arrested in connection with the death of a scooter rider following a crash on a notorious East Yorkshire road.

Colin Metcalfe died after being hit by a car in Great Gutter Lane, Willerby.

Mr Metcalfe, 48, of Cottingham, was travelling towards Willerby on his Lambretta scooter shortly before 12.45pm on Saturday when the collision happened.

The crash, near Riplingham Road, involved a Ford S-Max car.

Mr Metcalfe suffered head injuries and was taken to hospital, but died at 2.35pm that day.

A 52-year-old Willerby man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He has been released on police bail, pending further inquires.

The two editions of Songs Of Praise, one focused on the Minster, the other taking in more of the town, are each likely to be seen by three million people.

Schools get share of £19k

GOOLE: A number of schools in the town have been able to buy extra books and resources from a share of £19,000 funding.

The cash came from money paid in taxes by migrants when they first enter the UK to work.

The money has been shared between 10 local schools and two children's centre, including Boothferry Primary School and Goole High School.

Yvette Fox, of the council's school improvement service, said: "A number of schools in the Goole area have pupils who speak English as their second language and, given the nature of the funding, we opted to share the money between these schools to help them buy dual language and cultural heritage books, and teaching resources, suited to the diverse cultural backgrounds of their pupils."

Workshops for children aged over eight are taking placing during half-term.

At Beverley Toll Gavel Methodist Church, a "whodunit" class will be held on June 1 and 3D masks class on June 2.

The Spa in Bridlington will also host a 3D masks session on June 3 and street dance on June 4.

At The Civic Hall in Cottingham, there will be 3D masks on June 1 and circus skills on June 2.

Driffield High School will hold circus skills on June 3 and a whodunit on June 4.

Hessle Town Hall has a street dance class on June 1 and whodunit on June 2.

At Hornsea Floral Hall, street dance takes place on June 2 and circus skills on June 4.

At Pocklington Community Hall there will be circus skills on June 1 and street dance on June 3.

GOOLE: Three football teams from the town will be going for glory in the first Hull and East Yorkshire World Cup.

A total of 20 national teams, each representing a national community living in the region, will compete in the tournament on Saturday, May 22, at the University Of Hull.

It is hoped the tournament, which is the first of its kind in the region, could become an annual event.
