Detectives are appealing to possible victims of a paedophile bus driver to come forward and help keep him in prison.

Police believe Phillip Doughty, 53, who is facing jail for abusing a young boy, may have other victims across Hull and the East Riding.

A bus driver of 30 years, Doughty, of west Hull, has transported schoolchildren on various routes across the region.

Judge Michael Mettyear has told him to expect a "lengthy" prison sentence after grooming and abusing a young boy and police have appealed to others to come forward.

Detective Constable Sam Crompton said: "It is possible there will be other victims of Doughty's criminal behaviour who have not reported the offences to the police and I would urge anyone who feels they may have been a victim of this man to contact us."

The officer said any further allegations would be treated seriously, could lead to further charges and ultimately help keep him in prison for longer.

Doughty, who has no previous convictions, joined East Yorkshire Motor Services (EYMS) just weeks after sexually assaulting a 13-year-old boy.

The company has revealed he was CRB checked and came out clear.

Doughty was suspended when police launched and investigation and he was later sacked.

Hull Crown Court heard Doughty targeted the boy on the first day of his job for Veolia Transport - which is no longer in existence - in October 2007

Doughty groomed his victim over a number of months, before luring him back to his flat in the Boulevard.

There, he drugged the boy and sexually assaulted him twice.

The boy was so traumatised by the ordeal he tried to kill himself.

When detectives arrested Doughty, they found 6,000 indecent images of children in his safe.

It took a jury at Hull Crown Court just 40 minutes to find him guilty of two counts of sexual assault.

Doughty's victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, told the court: "I was so frightened.

"He gave me a glass of water, I think he drugged me, I was shaking.

Doughty had even removed the battery from the child's phone so he could not call for help or be found.

The paedophile drove the boy home after the attack.

For two years, the victim struggled to comprehend what had happened.

After trying to take an overdose, he was taken to hospital and told a councillor what had happened to him.

Doughty was immediately arrested.

Peter Shipp, EYMS group chairman and chief executive, said: "We are extremely careful who we employ.

"He had worked for us in the past.

"When he was with us, he was CRB checked and that came through clear.

"The first we knew of it was when we were contacted by the police and he was immediately suspended.

"His employment was terminated last October.

"We CRB check all our drivers when they start and recheck them every three years.

"We have rejected a number of applicants in the past due to their record checks not coming back clear."

Doughty is due to be sentenced next month.

Anyone who may have been a victim is urged to call Humberside Police on 0845 6060222.
