“ I saw another dog that had already been clipped waiting to be collected and I said I didnt want my dog as short as that after they asked me how I wanted it doing, she showed me with her hands how long and said so this length then and I said yes, when mentioning the other dog she said oh no we wont do it as short as that dont worry but when it came to picking my dog up it was exactly as short as the dog waiting in the shop! All the family were shocked how short he was but thankfully it is growing back, so I am looking elsewhere now as dont want that to happen again . ”

We offer Dog and Puppy Training Classes, Puppy Socialisation Classes, Puppy Walks/visits, Dog Grooming for all breeds and a well stocked pet supplies shop.
We also have a sister site on Sutton Fields.
We specialise in aggressive dogs and have an excellent success rate of re-training dogs that have a bitten or are very nervous of people/dogs.

Too short for my shi-tzu!

We pride ourselves on customer service and had you made us aware you werent happy with something rather than just paying, leaving and writing this review we could have done something about it for you. We dont want unhappy customers but people need to give us a chance to put things right.

We try to groom as per owner requirements but sometimes it is hard to determine via discussion what you want the dog to look like, we can always cut feet shorter if that is what you required. Its better to leave the dogs coat too long and cut more off that cut it too short, we cant stick hair back on. Also the groomers will always ask you if you are happy with the groom when you colect and pay, this is an ideal time to discuss and both Nicky and Jane would gladly have put the dog back on the table and taken more off the legs/feet had you made us aware of that. “Dear jamie, I am sorry you feel unhappy with the service you received. I have spoken to both of the groomers who were working on Saturday and they have advised that when you brought your dog in they told you that she was matted on her legs and down one side of her body (she was matted to the skin) and that it would need to be clipped off short. They showed you an example and you explained you werent happy with this, but when a dog with a curly coat like a poodle gets matted down to the skin it is impossible to brush out without causing the dog considerable pain. Your husband suggested we should do what we needed to in order to make the dog comfortable and unfortunately that involved a full clip off. Unfortunately due to the severity of the matted coat we had no option but to clip the dog off fully, (had we just clipped off the matted sections your dog would have looked like we had hacked it) and you were advised of this at the point of drop off. When your husband collected the dog we again explained why we had had to clip the dog off and discussed when the dog would be next due. I appreciate you were not happy and it was not what you wanted but but if a dog is matted we have no option. We cannot always do what the owner wants if that is impossible. Again we did advise you of this at the point you dropped the dog off, we certainly didnt just go ahead and clip the dog, doing what we wanted as you suggest. When you called to complain again the groomers tried to explain why we had to clip the dog off and also tried to give you advise on the best brushes to use to ensure your dog doesnt get matted again resulting in further full clip offs. Again my apologies that you were not happy but in this case I feel our groomers have done everything required by advising you at every step what needed to be done and why. We never groom a dog how we want always how the owner wants providing that is achieveable. If it isnt achievable we will always discuss as in your case. Kind Regards Gill””

“I just want to say a massive thank you to the girls at Oakwood for grooming my Cocker Jack. He was a she knotted little wreck when we rescues him and not only did you make him feel comfortable, at ease and look great but you treated him so well he pulls me through the door every time we come. He loves it there and im so please he isnt scared to be groomed. If only i could post a photo of before and after, people just wouldnt imagine the difference you made. Thank you from me and Jack : )”

Don't be swayed by ... 'very upsetting'.
“The groomer clearly explained what needed to be done before she started. If a trim was all that was required, that is what would have happened. However, the dog's fur was so matted it needed to be clipped short. If the owner had looked after the dog's fur properly to begin with this would not have been necessary. Oakwood are a marvellous organization and do not not deserve this drivel from someone who created the problem in the first place.”

very upsetting
“I took my dog here for the 1st time after hearing my friend went with her dog. I will never be going again I was in tears for days. I payed 30 pound for a full groom. There never cut his paws n now he looks ill treated. I am very upset and can't believe what there have done to him. I'm so embrassed I can't even walk him as he looks ill treated. Never use oakwood. My dog will never be going there again I'm very disappointed”

Fantastic Service, highly reccommended!
“I switched groomers as my dogs became terrified of going to the place I used to go to. Since going to Oakwood the dogs pull me through the door and don't really want to leave, the handling is kind and they love the attention. Everytime I go and pick them up they look absolutely beautiful, the skill of the girls there is clear to see. I wouldn't go anywhere else other than Oakwood!”
