HULL: A hustings event for the three Labour candidates who are battling it out for the role of Humberside police and crime commissioner will not be a public event, as previously reported.

Lord Prescott, the former Hull East MP, will share the bench with former MP Ian Cawsey and retired senior police officer Keith Hunter at the hustings event on Thursday.

However, the event will only be open to Labour Party members.

Each candidate will answer questions from the party members about their plans for role and why they are the best man.

The event has been organised by Hull University Labour Club.

The police and crime commissioner will replace Humberside Police Authority, accountable for how crime is tackled and setting the force's priorities.

The next stage will see every Labour party member in the region vote for their preferred candidate.

The winner of the Labour vote will then stand for election in November against candidates from other parties.
