Tigers fans camp overnight outside KC Stadium for historic final tickets

10:00 - 17-May-2008

THOUSANDS of loyal Hull City fans camped out through the night at the KC Stadium to book their place in history and get tickets for the Wembley play-off final.

Lifelong Tigers fan Peter Wilson, 70, of Anlaby Park Road South, west Hull, became the first person to get his hands on a dream ticket at 9am, after queuing since 1.30pm yesterday.

Mr Wilson set up his deck chair outside the ticket office 18-and-a-half hours before the office was opened, and was joined hour after hour by thousands of other die hard fans.

By 5pm yesterday a tent had been pitched, sleeping bags had been laid out and tables and chairs were put up.

Throughout the night fans kept a “party atmosphere by chanting, dancing, and playing ball games as they counted down the hours until the tickets went on sale.

Mr Wilson who has supported the Tigers since 1947 said: “I'm over the moon, I got the ticket I wanted.

“It feels great to be the first person to get a ticket. I must be mad to queue for so long.

“It means just about everything to get to Wembley. It's one of those things you dream about.

“What is going to happen next weekend I would not miss it for the world, we've never been to Wembley before and I just can't wait to go.

“I thoroughly enjoyed it last night, I didn't have a wink of sleep, and it did rain but it was a really good night, I'd do it again, it was worth it.”.

Becky Hyde, 20, of Wold Road, west Hull, was the second person to get her ticket.

She said: “I came early because it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. To see Ashbee leading the team out at Wembley is going to be awesome.

“You do feel quite good inside being at the front of the queue.

“It's brilliant to finally get the ticket, after 18 hours of queuing I've finally got it, this is what I've been waiting ever since I've been a pass holder.”

Fans who do not have a season pass can purchase the remaining tickets for Saturdays Championship final against Bristol City from Monday at 9am.

If Hull City season ticket-holders buy their allocated two tickets there will be about 4,000 left.
