TWO of the candidates who are standing to become the region's police and crime commissioner did not attend the debate.

Godfrey Bloom, a current UKIP MEP, said he was attending a debate at the European Parliament in Brussels.

The Labour candidate Lord Prescott said he wanted to complete his tour of the region meeting residents before taking part in hustings.

He said: "I am going out to find out what the public want from their commissioner.
