Fine dining in a contemporary setting
A modern menu featuring Indian cuisine with a "twist" has established Ve Raj as one of the region's most innovative new restaurants.
THe Shiptonthorpe venue, which opented last December, has already made a name for itself with its contemporary dishes. Syed and Faruk Miah's family are involved with two other award-winning restaurants in the region. Syed said: "There is a range of food available here that people will not find anywhere else - dishes that are unique to the restaurant.
"It is this, alongside the friendly atmosphere and the excellent service that we have created, that is making us such a leading venue for people to visit."
With a kitchen team lead by head chef Jushel Miah, who has worked in the restaurants of five star hotels in Bangladesh, Ve Raj is noted for its range of fish dishes - including bowal shark fish.
There is also a wide range of tandoori dishes and individual specialities of the house, including Batera - baby quail marinated and cooked in a tandoori oven - and Lembuh Wallah, a lime and lemon chichken brest or fillet or lamb dish. There are also inmpressive "set-piece" meals including a whole stuffed baby lamb which can serve up to 15 people.
The owners also said: "At Raj Ve we provide an individually tailored service to each of our customers. If there is something you would like which is not on our menu, we have the skills and resources to put it together for you. We are also aware of food allergies that some people have and specific diets, we can cater for those as well."
Beyond the stylings of the menu, Ve Raj is also notable for the stunning contemporary refit of the fixtures and fittings, this is due to a massive restoration project lasting five months, which was overseen by Syed and Faruk, This includes the black and red leather trims on the furniture - a colour scheme which has been echoed throughout the venue. With its unparalled levels of service and cuisine, it is unsurprising that Ve Raj has made such an impact on the local dining scene. Three months after opening, Ve Raj was awarded the best restaurant of the month by The Journal and since the award various other publications have also visited the restaurant and complimented it on its high levels of food service and ambience.
