PARENTS have been told Bacon Garth Primary's after-school care club is to close its doors.

When the club shuts, children will not be able to stay at Bacon Garth after school hours, forcing families to make other arrangements.

According to a school newsletter, club provider Jst 4 Kidz has decided to shut the service down "due to both financial and staffing issues".

Head teacher Dave Clark said in the letter: "This was unexpected and highly unfortunate news to us.

"I have met with parents who use the service to explain in detail the situation.

"Some parents had asked if we could provide the club as a school rather than using an out of school provider.

"The school has explored this proposition previously, however, and we concluded it was not feasible for a range of reasons."

Jst 4 Kidz also operates after-school clubs at St Andrew's Community Centre in Sutton Park and Kingswood School.

They will remain open.

Jst 4 Kidz director Kirsty Winter said: "We have given sufficient notice as per our contract to Bacon Garth Primary School.

"Jst 4 Kidz has taken the decision to close our after- school club at Bacon Garth Primary School for financial reasons. Parents and carers of children who used the facilities have been informed about the closure in plenty of time for them to arrange alternative childcare arrangements."

Ms Winter thanked Bacon Garth for their support over the past 18 months.

"It was a real pleasure to work with such a lovely, friendly school," she said.

Mr Clark said: "We were informed Jst 4 Kidz will cease to operate their after- school provision, which is based within the school, on March 30.

"We were sorry to hear it was closing, as the school and the children have always enjoyed a positive relationship with Jst 4 Kidz."

Bacon Garth school faced possible closure seven years ago due to falling pupil numbers.

Since then the school has doubled its intake and last year was ranked 11th nationally for pupil progress from Keystage One to Keystage Two.

The primary was ranked fifth in the East Riding for the percentage of pupils achieving the benchmark in both English and maths.
