Held on the first Sunday of every month at the Humber Bridge Viewing area off Ferriby Road in Hessle, this very popular local market goes from strength to strength.

Since the first market back in June 2008, this event has grown in popularity and aims to be the one of the best markets in the North East of England.

With over 50 stalls and visitor numbers in excess of 5,000 at each event, the market offers a wide range and choice of locally produced and farmed produce sold directly by producers to customers.

Items for sale include meats, vegetables, fruit, preserves, pies, breads, cheeses and speciality products, as well as a good selection of gifts and crafts. All are of excellent quality and value for money.

Neil Marshall, Business Manager at the Humber Bridge said: Our markets have been a great success and attendances have far exceeded our expectation, with over 5000 visitors at each. It’s great to see so many local people supporting the farming community and local producers. We are looking to convert even more of the local population into changing their shopping habits, and look forward to expanding this market in the coming months.

This is a wonderful opportunity to find a huge range of fresh and locally produced goods. Apart from offering unrivalled quality and freshness, farmers markets like this one offer a vibrant and friendly atmosphere that puts the fun back into doing the weekly shop!

The advantages of shopping at a farmers market over the supermarket dont end there. At markets like this one, local producers sell their goods directly to consumers, which means fresher food; a better understanding between the producer and consumer; high quality produce at an affordable price; and a fairer income for producers. Farmers' markets also promote a more sustainable society by reducing "food miles", assisting in the sale and marketing of food produced to high environmental and welfare standards, and by reconnecting consumers with the farming community that surrounds and serves them.
