Following the huge success of Sex And The City on the big screen, a film adaptation featuring the famous New York sextet - Monica (Courteney Cox-Arquette), Chandler (Matthew Perry), Joey (Matt Le Blanc), Ross (David Schwimmer), Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) and Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow) was rumoured to be in the pipeline.
But studio sources have reportedly said that the project is just wishful thinking.
"There's no way Jen, or really any of the others, would want to do this," an unnamed source told the US edition of OK!
"They've all spent the last four years trying to distance themselves from these iconic characters. This would be seen as a crass cash-in."
Another said Friends - which ended in 2004 after 10 years - wouldn't work on the big screen.
"With Sex And The City, those were always lifelike, dramatic characters that you could envision in a feature-length film," they said.
"But Friends exists in that sitcom world where 23 minutes is exactly how long you can stand these people for at a time."
Jayne Trotman, director of publicity at Warner Bros in the UK, told the BBC that "there was no truth in the story," while Courteney and Matthew's publicists also denied the rumours.
