Harry's musical ambitions
11:02 - 15-July-2008
"Depending on the musical but I think it would be fun. Sure, I'd love to do it," said the jazz singer and actor, who thinks it's good that an increasing number of actors are trying their hands at singing.
"There are so many actors singing," he says. "Look at Gene Wilder. He's not a singer, but when he did Willy Wonka, that's one of the great performances of all time, so it certainly can be done. Richard Gere did a great job in Chicago - he's not really a singer, so I think if you're dealing with a smart person, it doesn't matter what their voice sounds like, depending on the type of music. If they were going to sing operatic music, it may be a problem."
"I think it's great," he adds. "Who am I to say it's not good? I have my opinions about people but if Johnny Depp, who's not a singer, wants to do Sweeney Todd which requires him to sing, then that's fantastic."
