Nolte: Tropic Thunder has depth

Saturday, May 10, 2008, 10:46

Despite its controversial subject matter and Robert Downey Jr starring as a black man, Nick Nolte reckons new Ben Stiller comedy Tropic Thunder has more to it than meets the eye.

"It's got depth to it," he says. "It's going to be the big question - whether America is ready to see it in a satire. It's somewhere in between Dr Strangelove and Down and Out in Beverly Hills. It's satirically a Vietnam film."

Nick Nolte plays a Vietnam veteran in the film which follows a group of actors making a war movie, who end up playing it out for real.

"It's a great cast. I play a veteran who wrote the book that they're making the movie about," says Nick.

"You've got Jack Black who is a television star who has just progressed to his first film. Robert Downey Jr plays an Irish actor who's won an Academy Award three times, who's playing a black African American. Figure that one out!"
