Performers included Josh Groban, David Garrett, Hayley Westenra and Jonathan Ansell. The show opened with a duet from tenor Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman, who reunited for a rendition of Canto Della Terra.
The ceremony's host, Myleene Klass, appeared on stage in a purple gown to introduce the evening's performances. Among those presenting awards were Annie Lennox, Classic FM DJ Lawrence Llewelyn-Bowen and actor Brian Blessed.
Josh Groban, the biggest selling classical artist in the US and winner of Singer of the Year at last year's Classical Brits, performed for the first time at the ceremony, alongside 2008 Female Artist of the Year award winner Anna Netrebko. Speaking to journalists afterwards, Groban said it had been a real honour to perform at the ceremony.
Later, Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber received the award for Outstanding Achievement in Music. He said: "I'm the wrong person to be receiving this. It should go to my brother Julian who is a fantastic cellist and has been a tireless fan and advocate."
He also paid tribute to his father and dedicated the award to him.
The winners were Blake (Album of the Year), Anna Netrebko (Female Artist of the Year), Nicola Bendetti (Young British Classical Performer), Sir Colin Davis (Male Artist of the Year), Steven Isserlis (Critics Choice), James Newton Howard (Soundtrack of the Year, Blood Diamond), Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber (Outstanding Achievement in Music).
