Gallant Riston defeated by Kingburn

LONG RISTON 1 KINGBURN ATHLETIC 3

Kingburn were straight into the game and hit the bar twice in two seconds on their first attack.

The home side were glad to clear their lines and after a tense five minutes settled into the game.

The remainder of the first half saw Long Riston gradually gain in confidence as they blocked all Kingburn's efforts and created a few for themselves.

Riston should have taken the lead through Gaz Edeson but unfortunately the chance went wide.

Most of Kingburn's moves seemed to go down the right hand side and left back Aaron Chapman (Riston's man of the match) dealt with them all brilliantly.

At times he was also covering his centre backs to great effect.

For some reason Riston were sluggish at the start of the second half and allowed Kingburn to take the advantage a little.

But the first goal for Kingburn was very opportunistic.

A high up and under was hanging in the air and the Kingburn forward got his head to the ball just before the keeper's finger tips to make it 1-0.

Kingburn then took control for 15 minutes scoring twice more.

A fine through ball from Riston found Adrian Nock who raced 40 yards with the ball before scoring a fine goal.

The home side took heart and probably shaded the last 10 minutes but were unable to pull another goal back allowing Kingburn to run out 3-1 winners.

ST ANDREWS 0 HESSLE RANGERS 1

Hessle put in a much- improved performance to earn a hard fought 1-0 win over St Andrews.

With blustery conditions making life difficult, both teams were trying to get the ball down and play passing football but on too many occasions the wind dictated play.

Hessle scored in the 30th minute when M. Holmes ran onto a good through ball and finished well, firing a low cross shot into the bottom corner.

Hessle went into the half-time interval 1-0 up mainly to their keeper J. Garniss who had made three good saves to deny St Andrews.

Saints started the second half brightly; looking for the equaliser which looked like it would come, as Hessle were under constant pressure.

Hessle defended well and got back in the game with debutant T. Hunter playing well up front and the tireless efforts of T. Briggs and L. Keating who never stopped working.

Hessle had chances to seal the win but wasted their efforts, which meant a very nervous end to the game with Saints pushing for the equaliser, which was denied by some resolute defending and good goalkeeping to ensure Hessle the three points.

EAST RIDING RANGERS 1 NORTH CAVE 0

North Cave lost their first league game of the season in a scrappy encounter with East Riding Rangers on a poor playing surface.

The first half was dominated by the away side, but they were unable to convert any of their chances.

The Cave keeper didn't have a save to make and the sides went into half time level.

The second half was more evenly matched although it was the away side that had the better chances to take the lead.

Missed opportunities eventually took their toll and it was the home side that scored the only goal with a scrappy finish 15 minutes from time.

From the kick off Cave put Rangers under a lot of pressure which meant the defence would have to work very hard.

The Rangers defence held firm and restricted the cave forwards to hardly any efforts.

At half time Rangers were relieved to go in 0-0 and glad of the rest.

The second half started pretty much the same with Cave taking the game to Rangers, with the game going into its third quarter Rangers shocked Cave with a break away goal from Allan Peacock.

Back came Cave straight away but still couldn't break Rangers.

With Cave pressure the game opened up and with a bit more luck the score line could have been bigger.

BRIDLINGTON SPORTS CLUB 13 WITHERNSEA AFC 1

A depleted Withernsea were beaten 13-1 by Bridlington Sports Club in the HPL Division One.

Withernsea were reduced to 10 men early in the second-half when Mark Wilson was sent off, there were also two own goals in the game, the aforementioned Wilson in the first-half and John Dunn in the second.

Andy Bentley donned the gloves and had no chance with any of the Bridlington goals.

Phil Moore from the third team came up and manager Tony Finn signed himself on the day as 15 players were unavailable for selection for several reasons.

This will be put down as one of the worst results in recent times for Withernsea but with players to come back, fingers will be crossed that The Seasiders can get their first points of the season when leaders Crown FC visit Hull Road.

Dunn scored an equaliser in the 10th minute for Withernsea but then the hosts ran riot.

CHALK LANE AFC 2 NORTH FERRIBY RESERVES 2

Chalk Lane held on to their unbeaten start to the season but had to come back from behind to do so in another hard fought game.

North Ferriby started brightly with Danny Moon going close after 10 minutes.

Chalk, who had to make six changes from the previous week, then began to take control with Joe Lightowler and Adam Wilberforce both going close before they took the lead through Neil Leckenby.

Leckenby found himself at the far post and struck home a brilliant left-foot volley in to the corner of the net leaving Rob Moy in the Ferriby goal floundering.

The score remained 1-0 until half-time after which Ferriby came back strongly with Moon breaking free from tight marking for once and he scored an equally good goal past Phil Dobson in the home goal on 58 minutes.

Eight minutes later Gareth Owen broke through the defence and beat the advancing Dobson to make it 2-1.

David Blanchard scored the equaliser with a header from a corner with 10 minutes to go and Chalk continued to chase for a winner, which did not come, but throughout they had to be vigilant to stop a young and enthusiastic Ferriby side taking the spoils.

RECKITTS 1 SCULCOATES AMATEURS 2

A typical Scully v Reckitts match, nothing asked and nothing given.

Scully went in front in the second half with an excellent goal by Lee Benham.

Rob Kamis scored a second later on. Danny Drayton gave away a penalty in the last minute and Kirk Blake put it away. Scully just about deserved the three points.

WESTELLA & WILLERBY 2 HORNSEA TOWN 2

Two evenly matched teams put on a good display on a very windy day.

Right from the off there was only going to be one result.

Both teams battled hard in the middle of the park, but it was defensive error that allowed both teams to score.

A better performance from Town, who are still missing three major defenders due to long term injury.

Referee, Peter Cook, did a good job in the middle.

Marksmen for town were Carter and Silvestri.

HEDON UNITED 4 HALL ROAD RANGERS RES 5

In an entertaining encounter, nine goals were shared between Hedon and Hall Road Rangers with Hall Road coming out 5-4 winners.

With five different marksmen, namely Paterson, Morrill, Remy, Thompson and Gawthorpe. Scorers for Hedon were Swatman (2), Hall and Hartley.

BRANSHOLME ATHLETIC 3 INTER CHARTER 2

An end-to-end game was played in good spirit.

Both teams created chances but Charter went in 2-0 up at the interval and, having further chances, could have had the game wrapped up. Bransholme came out positively in the second half and started to press aided by the back wind.

More chances came for Charter but they couldn't capitalise.

Poor defending contributed to Bransholme's three goals.

ST ANDREWS 0 HESSLE RANGERS 1

St Andrews are still wondering how they lost this game with missed chance after chance and some good saves for the Hessle keeper within the first 30 minutes.

Hessle went 1-0 up against the run of play.

Halls missed from three yards out for St Andrews then Leng missed.

McLoughlin hit one outside of the area, only to be denied by a great save.

St Andrews were playing some wonderful football, but just couldn't get the ball in the net.

Both teams played entertaining football in a good game to watch in which referee Ronnie McNaughton contributed by letting the game flow.

HESSLE SPORTING 7 BEVERLEY TOWN 5

A high-scoring game was appreciated by the sending off of the Town goalkeeper after only 20 minutes of play.

Town were easily the better side in this period and looked dangerous on every set piece as Lynn, Lamplough and Custas went close.

McKeowan opened the scoring for Town latching from a fine through ball from Custas, Hessle equalised almost immediately after sloppy defending.

A Hessle striker toe bunged the ball in on the second attempt.

Then the game effectively was lost when the referee adjudged Cockin to have taken out a Hessle player.

The penalty was dispatched past McMillan, who took up the gloves.

Three more Hessle goals followed after Town got back on level terms from the penalty spot after O'Connell was brought down with strangely no card being produced.

Town did very well, winning the second half with 10 men, but were still hampered by key decisions going against them.

O'Connell completed a hat trick, and the best goal from a four-man move as Druham finished well at the far post.

Young Tom McKeowan was outstanding for Town with his quality and non-stop running. Marksmen for Sporting Club were Lyall (3), Garland (3) and Bradford.
