It comes as Hull will be one of 16 cities to play host to the Sport Relief Mile charity event on March 21, when thousands will be raised through sponsorship of people doing the Mile across the country.
A Community Cash fund of money raised through Sport Relief is being provided in each host City, with organisations in Hull to benefit to the tune of a guaranteed £62,500.
It is hoped the money will help thousands continue to keep their clubs running and organise events in local communities for people of all ages.
Community Cash from Comic Relief in partnership with the Hull Daily Mail application forms can be collected from the Mail’s reception or downloaded using the links below.
The scheme is being administered by the Hull & East Yorkshire Community Foundation working in partnership with the Hull Daily Mail and Hull City AFC. A panel made up of representatives from these organisations and including local community representatives will decide who will get grants at a panel meeting to be held in early April 2010.
John Davies, Hull City’s Football in the Community Manager, is on the panel and he believes the scheme is a great boost to sports clubs in the city.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for local charities that need funds,” Davies told the Mail.
“It’s great to bring in extra funding that encourages community engagement, health and education and social inclusion and we are delighted to be involved.”
Hannah fox, Comic Relief spokesperson, said: "Sport Relief has teamed up with the Hull Daily Mail to give local organisations that help people living in Hull the chance to apply for a Community Cash grant.
"This is a fantastic opportunity for small organisations in Hull to get their hands on much-needed cash for their local community and I would urge them to get their applications in without delay so that they don’t miss out on the chance to get some vital funding."
The closing date for applications is noon on Friday 5th March.
