Third tax freeze 'bad news for council services'
A MOVE to increase council tax charges by 1.9 per cent in the East Riding was defeated by a coalition of Conservative, Lib Dem and Independent councilors.
The authority's Labour group claimed an increase would offset the financial impact of welfare reforms on low-income households who faced benefit cuts and rent hikes.
Councillor Paul Hogan said: "We think the council should be doing more for our less well-off residents."
He said freezing council tax for a third year was bad news for residents who relied most on council services.

“Good ! At least some of the Council can see the move by the Labour Councillors to increase CT was not right. What is the point of making cuts if the savings made are replaced by getting more out the taxpayers? If they want find some more money to spend why not do a blitz on the £3m outstanding/uncollected Council Tax for the last financial year?”
