THE education and career prospects of a schoolgirl "groomed" by a teaching assistant have been left devastated, according to her family.

Christopher Reen's victim is still said to be traumatised by his actions and failed all her GCSEs.

As first reported on the Mail's website, Reen has now been sentenced to three years and four months in prison for having an affair with the girl when she was just 15 and a pupil at Headlands School, Bridlington.

He is the fifth member of staff at the secondary to be involved in a sex scandal with a pupil.

Reen, 32, of Carlton Street, Bridlington, had targeted the girl, including inviting her to join a martial arts club he ran.

He got her mobile number from her enrolment form and bombarded the teenager with more than 800 texts.

They included naked photos of himself.

Speaking through the police, the schoolgirl's family have said the affects of this behaviour have been "long and devastating" on her.

Detective Constable Andrea Cowey said: "Her mother has told us the affect on her daughter has been devastating. She failed her GCSEs after this and it has had a devastating affect on her career path and her life.

"This is going to continue affecting her for years to come. There is an element of grooming with what he did."

He had pleading guilty to six counts of sexual activity with a child and of having sex with a person under-18 while in a position of trust.

As well as his jail sentence, Reen was told at the hearing at Grimsby Crown Court, that he is now subject to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order, banning him from working or any access to children under-16 for life.

He will not be able to return to his wife and child after his sentence until he has written permission for social services.
